“THE PUFFY SHIRT”

In “The Puffy Shirt,” one of Season Five’s most memorable episodes, Kramer introduces Jerry and Elaine to his new girlfriend, low-talker and fashion designer, Leslie. According to Kramer, Leslie has come up with the “big new look in men’s fashions,” the Puffy Shirt, because people really do want to look like pirates.

After Jerry cordially nods at a series of inaudible murmurs produced by low-talking Leslie, he unwittingly agrees to wear the Puffy Shirt during his appearance on the Today Show. Jerry breaks down, publicly bashing the Puffy Shirt on national television, which leads to a downward spiral for Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer — not to mention the low talker and pirate fashion.

Seinfeld costume designer Charmaine Simmons designed the ridiculous apparel and joined Jerry Seinfeld in Washington, D.C. for the Puffy Shirt’s museum donation on November 18, 2004.
