Gold Parrots Pebble Art Panel

Produced by:
Picturesque Kits (later Open Door Mosaic)
Production Year:
c. 1960
Medium:
Crushed gravel and mixed media on fabric with wood frame
This striking mid-century wall panel features two stylized gold parrots perched on branches, created using the distinctive gravel art technique popularized by Picturesque Kits in the 1960s.
In the 1960s, the company Picturesque Kits produced pebble wall art, also known as gravel art or crushed marble mosaics. These kits were a popular DIY art form in the 1950s and 60s, similar to paint-by-number. Picturesque Kits were sold until around 1973, when another company purchased them and rebranded them as Open Door Mosaic kits. The Open Door Mosaics Company eventually went out of business in 1978.
